Department of Tourism and Resorts of Ajara Autonomous Republic became a member of the European Federation of Rural Tourism9 June 2015
The Department of Tourism and Resorts of Ajara has been accepted as an associate member of the European Federation of Rural Tourism during the General Assembly Eurogîtes 2015 held in Cyprus on June 4 this year. There are 35 professional member organizations from 27 European countries in the Federation. The Federation represents about 500,000 micro enterprises, which includes from 5 to 6.5 million sleeping accommodations.
The Development of rural tourism is one of the priorities for the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Ajara. In recent years, the Department of Tourism has been supporting the development of this tourism destination in the following ways: meets the existing potential for rural tourism in the villages; creates a database of existing rural tourism facilities which already have some experience of receiving tourists; provides training for owners of rural tourism facilities; sets tourist navigation signs for free movement of tourists in Ajara villages; annually publishes a promotional tourist brochures that are distributed domestically as well as at various international exhibitions around the world. The Department of Tourism and Resorts of Ajara has created electronic and print versions of eco-tourism maps as well as developed tourist routes, allowing tourists arrived in Ajara independently travel to the villages.
Through the membership in the European Federation of Rural Tourism, rural tourism facilities of Ajara will be included into an international information database of rural tourism. Thus, the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Ajara will be given an opportunity to gain European experience, introduce European / international standards and take part in various activities of the federation, which will contribute to both the development of rural tourism in the region and building awareness in Europe about the potential of rural tourism in Ajara region.
