In 2018 Adjara hosted an unprecedented number of travellers

In 2018, Adjara was visited by the unprecedented amount of international travellers. Last year, the number of international visitors raised to 1,931,179 people, that is 14,7 % more compared to 2017.

According to the increase in the percentage of international travellers, Batumi International Airport again takes the lead. The number of arrivals increased by 23,7 % compared to 2017.

Positive dynamic in the growth of international visits persists both in terms of traditional markets and European Union Member, new target countries, where the Tourism Department has been carrying out its advertising campaigns since 2017.

Estonia +88,2 %

Germany + 79,2 %

Great Britain + 33,9 %

Lithuania + 33,2 %

Poland + 11,5 %

“About 2 million international tourists in the region is an unprecedented number. It is the first time we have had such a performance. It is notable that the given indicators belong to three administrative parts (Sarpi, Batumi Airport, Batumi port). The number of international visitors from the target countries comprises 86,74 %, that is also very important. To achieve such a performance, during the last years we have actively carried out popularization of our region and country by means of international media platforms, press and info tours, international exhibitions, online advertising and other marketing activities. BBC, Euronews, CNN, Deutsche Welle are those companies which have broadcasted image videos about Adjara around the world.  The popularity of the region is evidenced by the fact that Airbnb  named Batumi among the 19 most trending cities of 2019. Airbnb is a platform with 500 000 000 customers and its rating serves as a recommendation for all these people. Assessing the rate of visits, we can say that Adjara has been transforming into a four season tourist destination, which is our main goal”, stated the head of Adjara Tourism Department, Sulkhan Ghlonti.
