The number of international tourists in Adjara has increased by 23%. According to the data of two quarters of 2018, the number of international tourist arrivals is 808,437.

The growth of visitors is noticed in the places of interest as well. Batumi Botanical Garden, Dolphinarium, Cable Car, Mtirala National Park and Gonio-Apsaros Fortress-museum are among those places, where an increase in the number of tourists is particularly noticeable.

According to the first two quarters of 2018, the number of visitors has increased by 20% in Batumi Botanical Garden, which, during 6 months, has been visited by 91,098 people. Only in June, the number of guests grew by 28% and comprised 37,287 visitors. The Botanical Garden is one of the popular visiting cards of Adjara, where the amount of visitors is growing from year to year. In 2017, Botanical Garden hosted 296,723 guests.

The number of Dolphinarium visitors has also increased. From January to June, it hosted 22 % more guests, which was 40 866 people. The dolphin shows, in June, were visited by 27 438 people, that is 29% more than last year. The shows are held three times every day, except Monday. Last year, the Dolphinarium hosted 194 548 visitors.

During the six months, 72% more, 19 761 tourists visited Gonio-Apsaros Fortress, the most recognizable cultural-historical feature of the region. Only in June, the fortress-museum was visited by 15 658 people. As for 2017, according to statistics, the place had 20 % more visitors than in 2016, that comprised 79 834 people.

Batumi Cable Car has also attracted more tourists.  During the six months, it served to 100 023 people (16% more). Only in June, the number of visitors comprised 41 996 (+13%). As for last year, the Cable Car was used by 319 518 visitors.

The visitor growth was fixed in Mtirala National Park, as well, which during 6 months was visited by 20 804 people. The number is 48% more than the previous year’s indicators. The park had the most visitors- 9 217 people (+47%), in June. And as for last year, it was visited by 47 460 guests.

“Compared to the same period last year, we have growth in all directions. The most important is that the increase is caused by our target countries. In total, during the six months, the number of international arrivals in Adjara has grown by 23%. During the whole year, the Adjara Tourism Department has been carrying out advertising activities in 16 target countries. The growth in the number of tourists, in total, is reflected in all aspects of tourism and is the main contributor to the region’s and country’s economy.  The analysis of the two quarters gives us reason to hope, that the tourist season of 2018 will end with high rates”, stated the acting head of Adjara Tourism Department, Sulkhan Ghlonti.
