The first celebration of Selimoba took place on 3 June 2006, in Khikhadziri gorge of Bachi-Bako village. This festival is dedicated to Selim Khimshiashvili, the head of Ajara liberation movement against Ottoman rule. On June 3, 1815, Selim was killed tragically, the Ottoman Turks beheaded him in the village of Bachi-Bako. By the establishment of this festival the entire population of Nigazeuli and the whole of Ajara express their respect to this recognized hero for his merits to homeland and the nation.
