Construction of the seaside boulevard, one of the most important tourist attractions of Batumi, is associated with the name of the well known French nobleman and a gardener Michael D'Alfons. In 1885-1889 he was appointed as a main gardener of Batumi Boulevard. During his work in Batumi he did a brilliant job, as managed to transform once an impassable territory into the marvelous resting place. He was named as a "Genius of Batumi sea coast". The first movement of horticulture in Batumi was connected with D'Alfons as well. He was a gardener who foresaw the unique resources and potential of Batumi Black Sea coast and managed to use fertile soil adequately. Michael D'Alfons contributed to the establishment of recreation place in Ajara coastline.
