Batumi funicular – “Argo” has hosted a million visitors since its foundation. The millionth customer appeared to be a Ukrainian tourist, Alex Tuchak, travelling to Georgia with his friend for the first time. The lucky tourist was awarded special certificates and gifts by the head of the Department of Tourism and Resorts-Sulkhan Ghlonti, the director of Goderdzi resort – Zurab Churkveidze and the director of the funicular – Giorgi Abashidze.
Alex Tuchak was granted an unlimited pass of “Argo” funicular, 5-day tour at Goderdzi resort, free supper at Argo restaurant and a discount card - “Batumi Card”. He was also given some Georgian products, souvenirs, informational and advertising materials about Batumi. “It is important for us to make every tourist’s visit to Ajara unforgettable. Today appeared to be really pleasant and full of surprises for our millionth visitor. It is essential that we have tourism infrastructure in the city, where people can spend a wonderful time. In our region the infrastructure development is going on and we’ll do our best to attract more tourists to Ajara. This year alone we have registered 17 813 more visitors at the funicular railway, compared to the eight months last year. The number of visitors is growing not only here, but in every important tourist place, that, once again, emphasizes the popularity and importance of Ajara as a tourist destination”, - said Sulkhan Ghlonti, the head of the Ajara Tourism Department.
